She sang vocals on the smash hit \u201cDancing in The Street\u201d \u2013 now Motown diva Martha Reeves will be dancing in your feed during this year\u2019s virtual Dancing with the Detroit Stars to benefit Lighthouse.<\/p>\n

The award-winning R&B and pop singer and former Detroit City Council Member is the lead singer of the group Martha and the Vandellas. They have more than a dozen hit singles to their credit include \u201cHeat Wave\u201d and \u201cJimmy Mack.\u201d<\/p>\n

Martha was born in Alabama and grew up in Detroit, one of 11 children in a churchgoing family. Her grandfather, Rev. Elijah Reeves was a minister at Detroit\u2019s Metropolitan Church. She attended Detroit\u2019s Northeastern High School and inherited her love of music from her parents.<\/p>\n

In addition to their smash hits, Martha and the Vandellas appeared on American Bandstand, The Ed Sullivan Show and many others. Ms. Reeves\u2019 storied career includes live performances, movie soundtracks, acting, a best-selling autobiography, and a seat on the Detroit City Council from 2005 \u2013 2009. Now, she\u2019ll add Dancing with the Stars to her long list of performances. We are truly honored to have her participation in this year\u2019s event.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Dancing with the Stars virtual event will be held Nov. 21. Proceeds support Lighthouse\u2019s efforts to fight hunger, homeless and poverty in Oakland County.
