Podcast co-host taps a sponsor as partner for Dancing with the Detroit Stars return<\/em><\/p>\n

Eric Fadie competed in last year\u2019s Dancing with the Detroit Stars gala and finished as the event\u2019s top fundraiser. For his return this year, he chose not to go the usual route of partnering with an instructor from the\u00a0Arthur Murray Dance Studio<\/a>, which teams with South Oakland Shelter to train contestants.<\/p>\n

Instead, Fadie, a producer and co-host of the popular\u00a0Detroit Cast<\/a>\u00a0podcast, picked one of his show\u2019s sponsors and longtime listeners.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor some weird reason he came up with me,\u201d said Tara Szott Wasik, a partner at\u00a0Szott Auto Group<\/a>. \u201cHe asked, and I reluctantly said yes.\u201d<\/p>\n

And so, Fadie and Szott will compete jointly as one of five teams at the event on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham.<\/p>\n

In addition to being his second time competing in the ballroom dancing event, Fadie, who also performs standup comedy at open mic nights and clubs across Michigan, said it dovetails with his love of being in front of a crowd. \u201cI thrive in the moment when people are watching,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

By contrast, it will be the first time dancing in front of a crowd for Tara, whose father, Tom, started the family owned group of four dealerships.<\/p>\n

\u201cNope,\u201d she says, \u201cI\u2019m not a dancer. It\u2019s all very scary. But South Oakland Shelter is such a worthy cause, so I decided to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two started practicing at Arthur Murray\u2019s studio in Royal Oak around Labor Day and report that things are going well. They plan to do a salsa routine to Bob Seger\u2019s \u201cOld Time Rock and Roll.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fadie credits the podcast\u2019s \u201cincredibly rabid fan base\u201d that responded to his Facebook Live sessions urging people to donate to SOS for his \u201cTop Fundraiser\u201d crown at the 2017 event. The podcast team \u2014\u00a0he\u2019s one of three co-hosts, along with Mike Wolters and Jay \u2014 also helped raise $31,500 for SOS in February 2017.<\/p>\n

Not that he\u2019s keeping tabs or anything.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like to get both this year. If I could get both the top dancer and the top fundraiser awards, that\u2019d be great,\u201d Fadie says.<\/p>\n
